Journal Feature

What is the Journal Feature?

The Journal feature is your digital business notebook. Use it to:

  • Record daily notes and observations

  • Document important events or incidents

  • Track business activities

  • Keep a log of decisions or changes

  • Note customer feedback or issues

Key Concepts

Journal Entries

Each entry contains:

  • Date: When the entry was recorded (can be different from creation date)

  • Title: Brief headline

  • Content: Detailed notes

  • Timestamps: Created and last updated times


Creating a Journal Entry

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Navigate to Journal

  • From your dashboard, go to Journal in the main menu

  1. Click "+" Button

  • Tap the green "+" button in the top-right corner

  1. Select Entry Date

  • Click on the date field

  • Choose the date for this entry

  • This can be today or a past date

  1. Enter Title

  • Add a clear, descriptive title

  • Examples: "New employee hired", "Customer complaint", "Equipment repair"

  1. Write Content

  • Type your detailed notes in the content field

  • Can be multiple paragraphs

  • Include as much detail as needed

  1. Save Entry

  • Click "Save" to create the entry

  • You'll return to the journal list


Viewing Journal Entries

The Journal Screen

The main journal screen shows:

  1. Date Range Selector

  • Shows current date range (default: last 30 days)

  • Click to open calendar and select new range

  • Entries outside the range are hidden

  1. Search Bar

  • Type to search through all entries

  • Searches both title and content

  • Updates the list in real-time

  1. Entry List

  • Each entry shows:

  • Date badge (green, with calendar icon)

  • Time

  • Title (up to 2 lines)

  • Content preview (up to 3 lines)

  1. Empty States

  • "No journal entries yet" when nothing exists

  • "No results found" when search returns nothing


Editing Journal Entries

  1. Find the Entry

  • Scroll through the list or search

  1. Open the Entry

  • Click on the entry card to open it

  1. Make Changes

  • Modify the title

  • Update the content

  • Change the date if needed

  1. Save Changes

  • Click "Save Changes"

  • Entry is updated with new timestamp

Note: Original creation date is preserved. Only the "Last Updated" time changes.


Deleting Journal Entries

  1. Open the Entry

  • Click on the entry you want to delete

  1. Confirm Deletion

  • Use the delete option (if available in your version)

  • Confirm when prompted

Important: Deletion is permanent. The entry cannot be recovered.


Filtering Journal Entries

By Date Range

  1. Click the Date Range Bar

  • Located at the top of the screen

  • Shows current range (e.g., "Dec 1, 2025 - Dec 31, 2025")

  1. Select Dates

  • Tap to open the calendar picker

  • Select a start date

  • Select an end date

  • Click "Done" or "Apply"

  1. View Filtered Results

  • Only entries within the range are shown

By Search

  1. Type in Search Bar

  • Located below the date picker

  • Type any word or phrase

  1. Results Update Automatically

  • List filters as you type

  • Shows entries matching the search term

  1. Clear Search

  • Delete text to show all entries again

  • Or use the "X" button in the search bar


Best Practices for Journal Entries

Do:

  • Write entries regularly (daily or weekly)

  • Be specific and detailed

  • Use clear, descriptive titles

  • Include dates and times for events

  • Note customer names and outcomes

  • Document decisions and reasoning

Don't:

  • Be vague or ambiguous

  • Mix unrelated topics in one entry

  • Skip important details

  • Write in all caps or all lowercase

  • Use inappropriate language
