Salon Summer Promotions: How to Beat the Summer Slow Season in Gulf Salons and Spas
WAJ Team
May 20, 2026
Gulf salons and spas slow down in summer because of the heat, travel and school holidays in July and August, but the season is predictable, so you can plan for it. The salons that come through well treat Eid al-Adha as their last big peak, sell pre-travel packages and summer memberships to the clients who are leaving and staying, and use the quiet weeks for staff leave, deep cleaning and training. Below is how to do each, with an 8-week plan you can copy.
Why is summer slow for salons and spas in the Gulf?
Anyone who has run a salon in Riyadh, Dubai or Doha knows the pattern. From June the afternoons go quiet, and by July whole families have flown out. Four things drive it:
The heat. Nobody wants a fresh blow-dry ruined by a 45-degree walk to the car park, so midday bookings drop first.
Travel. Residents and expat families head home or abroad, often for weeks at a time.
School holidays. Gulf summer school holidays run roughly from July to August, and that is when family travel peaks.
Staff leave. Your team wants to travel too, which is fine, as long as it is planned.
The good news is that the slowdown is the same every year. You are not guessing. You are scheduling.
How do you make the most of Eid al-Adha before summer?
In 2026, Eid al-Adha is expected around 27 May. For many salons it is the last real peak before the summer lull, so squeeze every slot out of it.
Open Eid bookings early. Message your client list two to three weeks ahead. The pre-Eid days fill first.
Extend hours on the busiest nights and publish them on your booking site so clients can book themselves late.
Build an Eid package. Hair, nails and brows in one booking is easier to sell and easier to schedule than three separate appointments.
Rebook before they leave. Every Eid client who is staying in the city should leave with her next appointment booked. Every client who is travelling should hear about your pre-travel package.
Take deposits on long services. A busy Eid week is exactly when a no-show hurts most. Our guide on how to cut no-shows covers deposits and reminders.
What pre-travel packages work for summer?
Clients flying out want to arrive looking good and stay low-maintenance for weeks. Sell to that.
Travel-ready hair: a smoothing or keratin treatment plus a trim, booked one to two weeks before the flight.
Holiday hands and feet: a long-lasting manicure and pedicure, with cuticle oil to take away.
Smooth for the beach: hair removal plus brows and lashes in one visit.
Groom before you go: for barbershops, a cut, beard shape and facial before a long trip.
Ask the travel date when they book. A client flying on the 5th of July does not want a reminder on the 6th. Store the date in the client notes and time your WhatsApp message to land a week before it.
Is a summer membership worth offering?
For clients who stay in the city, yes. A summer membership gives regulars a reason to keep coming during the quiet months and gives you predictable revenue when walk-ins dry up.
Keep it simple and time-bound, for example June to August:
A set number of blow-dries per month for ladies' salons
A monthly massage or hammam for spas
A cut-and-beard plan for barbershops
Make the value clear, make the end date clear, and invite members to roll into an autumn plan before it ends. Our article on the spa membership model in the Gulf goes deeper on pricing and retention. WAJ supports memberships and packages, so each member's plan sits on her client profile.
How should you plan staff leave around summer?
Badly planned leave is how a quiet summer turns into a bad one: three therapists away in the same fortnight and the one busy weekend left uncovered.
Block Eid week. No leave in the days around Eid al-Adha.
Spread leave across July and August, when demand is lowest.
Cross-train before people go. If your only lash artist is away for a month, someone else should be able to cover basic services.
Put every approved leave in the staff calendar now, so online booking only shows times when someone is actually there.
How do you use the quiet weeks well?
A slow week is not wasted if you plan what fills it.
Deep-clean week: close a section at a time, deep-clean stations, service the AC, fix the chair that has wobbled since March.
Training week: bring in an educator, practise new services, rehearse consultations, train new staff on your booking system.
Menu review: look at which services sold and which did not, and tidy the menu before autumn.
Pick the quietest weeks from last year's reports and tell clients in advance. "We are refreshing the salon for you" lands far better than a locked door.
Who should you target in summer?
The residents who stay. Not everyone travels, and those who stay are often looking for something to do indoors.
Working professionals who cannot leave until later in the year. Offer evening slots after the heat breaks.
Mothers with children at home who want an hour to themselves. Quiet morning slots work well.
Regulars who did not travel last summer. Your client history will tell you who they are.
Lapsed clients. Summer is a good time for a win-back message, because you have the capacity to take them.
Use your CRM to build these lists and send personal messages on WhatsApp rather than a blast to everyone (our guide to salon software and WhatsApp in MENA covers the etiquette). WAJ's win-back audiences and marketing automations can do the filtering; your job is to write a message that sounds like a person.
Can hotel staycations bring in summer clients?
They can, especially for spas. Plenty of residents swap long trips for a staycation weekend, and hotels without a full spa often want a partner.
Approach nearby hotels with a simple offer: a massage or facial their staycation guests can book.
Agree on how bookings come in and how you settle payment before you start.
If you are a hotel spa, build a staycation add-on that front-desk staff can sell at check-in.
Why do indoor wellness services sell in summer?
Because they are an escape from the heat. Hammam, massage, body scrubs and hydrating facials all feel right when it is unbearable outside. Sun and air conditioning also dry out skin and hair, which makes hydrating treatments an easy recommendation. Sell them as a cool, quiet hour, not a discount.

FAQ
When does the summer slow season start for Gulf salons?
Usually after Eid al-Adha, with the deepest dip during school holidays in July and August.
Should I discount services in summer?
Use discounts carefully. Memberships, packages and timed offers protect your prices better than blanket discounts.
What are the best summer promotions for spas?
Indoor wellness such as hammam, massage and hydrating facials, summer memberships for residents, and staycation partnerships with hotels.
How do I keep staff busy in a slow summer?
Schedule leave in the quietest weeks, then use the remaining quiet days for training, deep cleaning and cross-training.
Is it worth staying open in August?
Most salons do, because residents still book. Adjust hours to the demand you see rather than closing outright.
