To improve your salon Google Maps ranking, work on the three things Google says drive local results: relevance, distance and prominence. In practice that means a complete, accurate Google Business Profile with the right categories and services, a real business name with no keyword stuffing, fresh photos and posts, a direct booking link, consistent name, address and phone details everywhere online, a steady flow of reviews, and a website page for each branch.
Picture a woman in Al Barsha at 7 pm typing "ladies salon near me" or «صالون نسائي قريب». She sees three businesses in the map pack, maybe taps one or two, and books. If you are fourth, you are mostly invisible. Most salons and clinics in the Gulf leave obvious gaps in their profiles, so steady, unglamorous work moves you up.
According to Google Business Profile Help, local results are based mainly on three factors.
Relevance is how well your profile matches what someone searched for. A profile that says "Beauty salon" and lists hair colour, keratin and bridal makeup is relevant to those searches. A half-blank one gives Google little to match.
Distance is how far you are from the searcher, or from the location in their search. You cannot move your shop, but you can make sure your pin and address are exactly right. A pin dropped on the wrong side of a mall or on a service road costs you.
Prominence is how well known your business is. Google looks at what it can find about you across the web, and reviews play a part.
You control relevance almost completely and prominence partly. The rest of this guide is about those two.
Your primary category is one of the clearest relevance signals you control. Choose the one that describes your core business, not the one with the most searches:
Then add secondary categories for real services you offer, such as nail salon, waxing or massage. Skip categories for things you do once a month.
Under services, list what you actually sell, using the words clients use. "Hydrafacial" and "keratin treatment" match searches better than "Signature Glow Ritual" on its own. If you have a clear service menu, copy its structure. Our guide to building a spa service menu helps here.
Attributes tell searchers practical things: whether you are women-only, have wheelchair access, accept card payments or offer online appointments. In the Gulf, details like women-only staff or a private entrance matter to a lot of clients. If they apply, make sure they are visible.
Your Google business name should match the name your business actually uses, on its sign, licence and branding. Google's guidelines are clear that adding extra keywords or locations to the name is not allowed, and profiles that do it risk suspension.
So "Layla Beauty Lounge" is fine. "Layla Beauty Lounge, Best Ladies Salon Dubai Marina, Keratin & Nails" is not, even though you will see competitors doing it. Losing your profile for weeks is far worse than ranking a little lower.
Many Gulf businesses trade under both an Arabic and an English name. Use the name as it appears on your signage and licence, follow Google's guidelines on how to present it, and put your Arabic and English keywords where they belong: in your categories, services, description and website.

Photos help people choose you. Upload real ones, not stock images:
Add new photos regularly; opening-day pictures from three years ago tell searchers nothing about today. For clinics, be careful with before-and-after images and patient privacy, and follow your health regulator's rules.
Google posts are short updates on your profile. They will not transform your ranking alone, but they keep it active and give searchers a reason to click. Ideas that work:
Reuse what already works on Instagram. Our guide to salon social media marketing in 2026 has plenty of ideas you can repurpose, in Arabic and English.
Yes. Someone who finds you at 11 pm can book there and then, instead of noting your number and forgetting.
Link straight to your booking page, not your homepage. With WAJ, your booking site shows live availability for each service and staff member, so the client picks a time and gets a WhatsApp reminder before the appointment. You pay no commission on those bookings, and there is no marketplace listing you next to the salon down the road. Clinics using Nabd, WAJ's clinic product, can do the same.
NAP stands for name, address and phone number. When your profile, website, Instagram bio, directories and booking pages all match, Google can be confident they describe the same business.
Common Gulf problems we see:
Make one master record of your name, address, phone and hours for each branch, in Arabic and English, and use exactly that everywhere.

Reviews feed prominence, and they influence who gets the click. Keep it simple: ask every happy client, make it easy with a direct link sent after the visit, and reply to every review, good or bad, politely and quickly. Never offer discounts in exchange for reviews.
If you have more than one location, yes. Each profile should link to its own branch page, not your homepage. That page should include the branch address, a map, hours, phone, services offered at that branch, the team and a booking button.
A group with branches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi that sends both profiles to one homepage wastes relevance. WAJ's no-code website builder lets you create those pages with a booking site attached, and multi-branch support keeps services and staff right for each location. For more on promoting each location, see our spa marketing strategies.

It depends on area and competition. Fixing categories, services and NAP can help fairly quickly; prominence builds over months.
No. Google's guidelines say the name should match your real-world business name. Adding keywords or locations can get the profile suspended.
Its main value is turning searches into bookings. A complete profile, with booking links, gives searchers a better experience and more reasons to choose you.
Weekly is a good rhythm: a post, a few new photos and replies to new reviews. Update hours before every public holiday.
Google Maps rewards businesses that are accurate, active and easy to book. If you want a booking site, branch pages and WhatsApp reminders working together behind your profile, book a free WAJ demo: waj.ai/demo.
